Does anyone know if there is a limit to the number of dummy MACs you can have loaded in callmanager at a given time? I've heard a rumor that there is, but I can't find any info to support this.
I suppose it would know it was a dummy mac by the leading characters "BAT". It didn't sound right to me either, but I just wanted to verify that there isn't a limit.
I used dummy MACs for numbers that were not actually on a phone, but I wanted to use for something. On some phones, I had a speed-dial for 'help desk', I put in a dummy mac for a phone, then on one of the lines I added the number that the speed dial pointed to. then I forwarded all calls to that number to my cell phone, so when someone pressed the 'help desk' button it rang my cell phone. you can create a dummy phone for all your phantom numbers, if you use a 7960 as the phone, you can add 2 7914s to it and get 34 numbers on one phone that doesnt really exist. you can also use CTI route points for the same thing.
We use dummy MAC's to BAT in dummy phones then as you install the real phone, we edit the dummy MAC to the actual MAC. You don't have to scan in the MAC's to the BAT file, keep track of where each phone is , etc. I know TAPS can be used also but I believe you have to have extra software installed to use it. This is quick and nothing extra needs to be built on the server.
Degg for your use, use a Translation Pattern. Translate your Speed Dial number to your Cell Phone. Quicker and easier. Probably uses less resources.
We use dummy MACs to allow off premise phones to use Unity voicemail. Unanswered calls forward to the these fake phones which call forward all to get to voicemail. We do fake MACs as "0001234FACAD" where 1234 is the phone number...
