My colleague using Outlook 2000 on an Exchange 2000 Server has set up 46 rules to separate emails from certain individuals into different folders using the Organise feature built into Outlook.

When he tries to create another, he gets a message saying that there isn't enough space on the server to store any more rules. But there is - as far as I can see - loads of space on the server, so I don't understand.

If there a predetermined limit set by Outlook or Exchange on the number of rules a user can have ?

Please can you assist me.

Regards,
Julia

Exchange has a limit of 32k in total for all rules in the mailbox. This cannot be increased or hacked.

Exchange 2007 has a higher limit :)

The only "cheat" I know is to use POP3 from Exchagne to Outlook then you may find things improve.

Thanks for your reply.

How much higher is the limit in Exchange 2007 ?

What version of Windows SBE does that program come with ?

Can you tell me a little more about the "cheat" you mention ?

Regards,
Jay

Ex2007 is 128kb from memory.
Windows SBE? What is that?
Cheat is to use POP to bring the data down from the ISP rather than Exchange then you are using Outlook as stand alone and you may find that POP filtering means the rules are smaller.

Zel,

Small Business Edition.

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

Ah, I see. You need a 64 bit edition of Windows so I think the small business end is waiting for that towards the later end of this year.
