What is the SQL syntax to limit the number of rows read from the database in an IQD? Can someone please post an example.

I want to do this to test that the structure of the cubes look OK before building a cube full of data.

Thanks in advance.

johnoha,

You don't need to limit your sql to build a cube with a small number of rows. When you have a model open in transformer go to the run menu. The last option is test build. Select this and enter in how many rows of data you want to read. This will read by default 1000 rows of data per data source in your model. This is a great way to test your models to see if the structure is what you are looking for. A lot of us hard core Cognos cube builders requested this functionality a number of years ago, and got it! Good luck!

Thanks for that, I didn't want to limit all data sources, just the source for the primary transactional data. The other data sources are for descriptive data only, I guess I can ensure that the limit is changed to ensure all descriptions are loaded.

Thanks again!!

johnoha,

Exactly. I usually figure out what the largest structural data source is and use that as my number of rows in my test build.
