That thing did it's job and then some but for how cheap you can pick up a refurb 0x32 cabinet it's a no brainer to take the upgrade path. Anyway I'm sure a older version of NRU can accommodate you with a backup of the system.

What would we gain and loose with an MICS? We have 8 lines with CID, 4 DID trunks serving probably 15 or 20 DID lines, ~36 sets (M7100, m7208, m7310, m7324, ?t7312?), Startalk flash mail. How much of this would transfer to the MICS? How much would NOT transfer?

What is currently actively supported (Avaya BCM?) that will allow us to continue using the same phone sets or at least as much of the old system as possible?

It appears that the 8x24 system does everything we need, is almost bullet-proof and is available at very low cost. How long are they going to be around??

Do you happen to know any good Norstar techs in western New Brunswick, Canada? The NBTel ones that installed this have all retired and the telco no longer supports Norstar (they support a system where they do all the set changes back at the switch in town and charge $75 for every change...)

The Norstar product is End Of Life and AVAYA will not supporting it period. The good part is the cost for an MICS and cards is dirt cheap and plentiful. You have to be careful regarding the software version of your Flash VM. It may not work with the release of MICS you get and will be required to be upgraded to at least 2.0. If you are planning on an MICS you should just replace the Flash with a Call Pilot 100 or 150. Restoring the database from an 8x24 to an MICS requires a few interim software versions and the applicable upgrade tools. You would lose nothing moving forward and still be on a bullet proof platform. I would only recommend this being done by someone who has done it many times and knows the ins and outs of the process.

Do you have a 0X32 or an 8X24?
8X24 does not have Line Cards in it.

Oooops - slip of the fingers. It's an 8x24ds

(
I saw posts that mentioned NRU (v10?) contained Norstar Manager in the package.

Where (if anywhere) can I get Norstar Manager 3.7 in 2013 - I don't see any download pages on Nortel's site...

Will a Fast-Rad work just as well as a RAD on the 8x24DS (From what I can see - YES)?

Has anyone ever hacked the file format for the backup and figured out an easy way to program line and set names from a real keyboard...

We were able to get the system back up and running. It's just taking way too much time to go around and reprogram all the users' phones. (And now to get Bell to fix the dead DID trunk (one of 4)- the new techs don't have a clue how it works or what to do when it doesn't and the old techs are all retired. At least we know for sure that trouble was not our equipment now - since it still exists on new equipment.)

From the looks of things this 8x24DS will serve our needs for the forseeable future, and hopefully it will be another 10-15 years before we have an urgent need to update it. Will look at the market then.
