I've been working with the Definity since the G3iV3 days and even worked with a System 85 at one point, just wondering if anyone has an educated guess as to how long these systems may be viable in the market? The last I checked CM4 was out and there many have been upgrades since them.

I've seen entire Definity systems on ebay, that alone shows how many of the systems are being surplused.

The company I work for is implementing Shoretel VOIP slowly and maybe in the next 3-4 years the Avaya system will be shut down.

How are job prespects for anyone with extensive Definity/CM/Audix/Octel experience? Opinions?

Thanks

I have an Avaya system converted from G3iV9 to VoIP CM 5.2.1 that I will soon upgrade to 6.2. I also have a stand alone ShoreTel system that was recently upgraded from 7.5 to 12.5. Avaya and ShoreTel are constantly making changes. I don't know about anywhere else, but careers are scarce in southern CA unless someone is retiring.

I actually worked another system before getting my G3R v1 also. A Demension 2000. But the G3's will be out there when were all gone. People have started throwing them away for a while now. Matter of fact, I decommissioned a G3I v6 a few weeks back. I think if you can keep up with CM and all the others (SES, Messaging, SAL, Session managers, AES, ) you will be able to get a job somewhere. If you think about it, were all in a very narrow job field to begin with. But their always going to need someone to make them work. Not many of us old guys out there anymore than can. Including Avaya.

When is the last time you helped someone, just because you were able to?
