Lifestyle virus

My friend has a message when he boots that says he has a "lifestyle virus" and then he cannot get into XP. Can anybody give me some advice as to how I might gert him back into windows? Thank you in advance.
 
Hi there,

The first thing to try is to boot into safe mode. To do this tap the F8 key while you boot the machine.
From safe mode or safe mode with networking you may be able to scan and remove the virus.

My friend cannot get into safe mode. Is there antivirus software that will boot into his system and eradicate the virus? Thanks in advance. Jay
 
What antivirus is he currently using? Why can he not get into safe mode? What happens when he tries?
