Hi all,

New to Avaya so apologies if my question seems dumb.

I have the opportunity of acquiring a second user media gateway G350 along with a S8300B Media Server and my question is this:

I only want to use this in a lab environment for integration testing with our existing kit (mostly Nortel and Cisco) unfortunately the system is without it's current license information, though it is known to be a working system and legitimately sourced.

Should I need to have the software wiped and reinstalled how would I go about obtaining any license files? I expect that there would need to be a ‘change of ownership’ process to be followed with Avaya?

Many thanks for your assistance.

You'll need to engage a friendly Avaya Business Partner and compensate them for their time. They can place an order for X number of RTU for a brand new CM5.2. They'll then have to create an RFA license for the new system and work with the RFA team at Avaya to remove the G350 Media Gateway Serial Number from the old SID.

On the upside, you're going to get the latest features and all the software entitlements that go with 5.2.

Thanks for that, I appreciate the quick response.

norlee, what rockspop said is true, however, you will soon discover that the licensing for a system, without hardware associated with it, will cost you more than if you bought the equipment brand new... We are a business partner, and this is what we typically discover. Your best bet is to use what you have, and not worry about the licensing. If you where going to use that in a real location, I would not give you that advice, but if it's only for use in a lab, that is your best option. Let me give you just 1 example: to remove the existing G350 from the current SID, AVAYA charges us $245, just for the paperwork to get it done, not to mention the several weeks it takes. once that is done, you can then license the G350 to another SAP order #, generate a new SID, but the CM5 RTU will cost you several thousand dollars as well.

Thanks Mitch, looks very similar to Nortel's pricey way of doing things.

I really only need this in a lab but am nervous of paying out and being left with a system that I could not do a software re-install should the need arise.

Is it possible to retrieve the license file from the running system to keep for future use?

On our Nortel I can copy the keycode file to my pc via ftp, with that I can reinstall my system quickly when I kill it, I'm getting quite good at that...

If you know who the Business Partner who installed the system initially is (or the Distributor who sold it, such as Catalyst), they should be able to retrieve the license and password file for you... If not, then it's not easy because in AVAYA's RFA system (Remote Feature Activation), the BP who is retrieving the license for you, has to have their GAI (Group Authorization Identifier) listed on the license, or they will not be able to access the records. AVAYA would be able to get it, but they are not likely to help you with this.
