Could someone please provide clarification on licensing regarding Option11s and CS1000s? We need desktop messaging licenses for a in-house unified messaging software to send voicemails to email.
-What is available?

-What is not available?

-Would the current system potentially need to be upgraded?

-Would it be more effective to get a refurbed CallPilot with more desktop messaging licenses then we currently have?

Also if anybody has information on Avaya's KRS:

-When will it be shut down?

-What keys can still be activated?

-Should we horde licenses in case they are needed in the future?

easier for you to tell us what you have Eg: processor type, s'ware rls, Call pilot platform & rls

Then you'll get what you need

Remember if it doesn't work hit it harder

It might be hard to get Desktop licenses for your systems as they are all end of sale/end of support. 5.1 is what is current, but I think you can still get licenses for 5.0.

2.01 and 1.07 are out of the question. You won't get licenses for those. 4.04 is a longshot, but not sure. You can contact your vendor to see what can be ordered.

If you want to purchase a Call Pilot from the gray market, you can do that, but there are some packages in the CS1000 that were required for Call Pilot. I don't believe it changed from Call Pilot versions so if you wanted to get one it should work. You are limited to what you can find on eBay here but as long as it comes with the dongle you should be ok. They are not tied to specific CS1000 TID's any longer.

KRS is still active, but activating licenses, I believe, has been limited to authorized partners. I do know if you start activating licenses and you don't have a PO they will have their IP (Intellectual Property) department call you to find out what you are doing. We had someone give out their login to the wrong person and they activated a bunch of licenses and we were threatened with losing our partnership (couple years back).

You can forget about getting any license on the CP that you have.

If you're willing to upgrade those to 5.1 then not a problem. You'll have to talk to an authorize partner to purchase the upgrade, you're looking at well over 100K for all 3 sites.

Good luck

Thank you Janaya and Yyrkroon for your responses. We have had some talks with resellers who pretty much said the same thing - that it would be better to buy a new "refurb" system with the mailboxes we needed.

We know these devices are on borrowed time and just needed to know what to anticipate if we come in one morning and they are no longer breathing.

Actually the devices aren't on borrowed time.

You do have other options without throwing your equipment and phones away and still having it fully supported by the new Nortel guys.

I can't say the name of the company because this isn't a sales or marketing site. But if you do a little research you'll find a company that keeps the Nortel M1 and CS1000 product going with new technology.

The Nortel phones are too nice to throw away. Avaya still makes the 3900 and 1100/1200 IP sets still for replacements as well.

I have heard this as well RLSbutton. I believe the guys that run that company used to be the engineers behind Nortel. I know there is a voicemail system that can be upgraded to from Call Pilot, but that company was recently purchased by Avaya.
