Licenses go invalid for no good reason

403 2.1.2798xx key server continus to run and shows connection with dongle, yet licenses become invalid, seems to be lost comms , similiar to tftp probs in these later versions, system cant see dongle/key server, only way to get valid is to disconnect from network and reboot while connected to key server pc, wont come valid while connected to network

I've got the same problem on a 412. Was running 2.0, upgraded to 2.1. USB dongle connected to the back of VMPro server which also acts as the License File server and the TFTP server. I've never had this problem with a Serial Key. Has anyone ever gone through the process of switching from USB to Serial on the License Keys?

Check for a malware attack on your network - if the network is being flooded the IPO may not be able to communicate successfully with the licence key server.

If that turns out not to be the case, verify your IP routing. Note that the licence key server should be on the same physical lan as the IPO - ie no routing should be required between them.

Thanks Morrack,

The IPO and VMPro aren't connected to any external network yet. They're just sitting here in the lab, plugged into a 16 port hub. We've checked the power management schemes and reloaded the License Key drivers per our Distributor.

Still working on it, I'll keep you informed.

rockspop, sorry I was posting a suggestion for IPAlot. For your case, what flavor of 2.1 are you on? Make sure it is 2.1.248901, if not it's almost certainly the TFTP bug that is hosing you.

plug the licence server directly on to the ip office make sure the ip address is correct in the manager for the server

Thank you Morrack, would surprise me if this is the case as site is one of the country's larger isp's, but will check it out with customer, any other suggestions, hasnt happened since I got them back up 2 days ago , so i guess you may be on the right track

You can't plug a USB licence key directly into an IPO xlr8neo - unless you've discovered something?

well actually you will be able to soon on the small office! However I meant the pc that the licence server software is on directly to the 403 hub 8 ports on the right and not through anoter hop

You can use the serial dongles on the Small office & 412. When using an adapter you can even use them on the 403 & 406 but this is not supported by Avaya...

I'm a real big fan of serial dongles plugging directly into the IPO units myself.

Very pleased to see that the 406v2 has a 9 pin instead of 25 pin DTE - hopefully this means the serial dongle will be officially supported on it.

Yeah, well, maybe. The R2.1 release notes also stated, in a bald faced lie, that "you can now use any mix of analog, BRI, or PRI cards in either slot". They neglected to mention that was NOT TRUE IN NORTH AMERICA now didn't they?!?

We tried working through our issues in Job Aid #49, which addresses Windows XP and SP2. We tried re-administering the firewall in SP2. We finally swapped the USB Dongle for a parallel dongle. Cost, $40. They get a new serial number on the paralell dongle and match it to your encrypted keys. The swap takes a whole two days. $40 is a bargain!

Have you upgraded your manager version? (To 4.1(15)
Had this problem when I upgraded to 2.1. Was still using old manager version, everytime I merged a config it would knock the licences out. Had to reboot to get them back.

I have seen this problem. Which totally threw me.
The Software was using 100% of the CPU. So when the IP Office was polling for liscences the PC just had nothing left to give.

With a back up and a restore of the machine. It see this little monster of a problem sorted!

I have read all the replies and feel that perhaps this won't help, but I will add my 4 pennies worth.
I had the same problem and found that the PC that the dongle was connected to had the same IP address as another PC on the network. As soon as we replaced the IP address the invalid licenses stopped.

Currently i have the same problems on two 403 with 2.1.27 and VM Pro 2.1.14. Exactly after 18 hours of function the IP Office makes the license invalid and VM Pro stops working.
Licensekey is on the same PC as the VM Pro.
On a third installation, a 406 2.1.27, VM Pro 2.1.14, Softconsole 2.1.10 we had the same problem. We moved the license server from the VM Pro to a old Pentium II PC with Win2k and the problem is gone.

This weekend i will reinstall the license server on both other machines to see if that helps.
A serial dongle works fine on a 403 or 406, you only need a full modem cable from 24 to 9 pins.
