License Violation error using Backup Exec 8.6

I am trying to backup the System State of a Windows 2000 Advanced server that is a member od a SQL cluster environemnt.

When I try to do this I get the following error message:

License Violation
This edition of Backup Exec is not licensed to protect Windows 2000 Advanced Server or DataCenter.
Please contact your vendor for information on upgrading this edition of Backup Exec.
Unable to attach to \\10.16.1.25\System?State.
Access to the device is not authorized with this edition of the product.

I have spoken to one vendor who has told be that 8.6 is unable to backup W2K Avanced server and that I need to upgrade to ver 9.0.

Antoher vendor has told me that If you have the licences for Veritas Remote Agent (which I have)for Win 2000 server they are also compatible with Win 2000 Advanced Server. No need to buy anything.

Who do I belieive?

Which version of BE 8.6 do you have? I am using BE 8.6 to backup files from my active/passive cluster which has a virtual SQL Server. I pulled out my software and licenses and the license for BE 8.6 is (bolding is mine for emphasis):

BENT/2000 ADVANCED SERVER EDITION v8.6

I can backup the system state with this. I'm willing to guess that you don't have the Advanced Server edition of BE 8.6.

I spoke to veritas who confirmed that you were correct. We currenlty have the standard version of 8.6, and you require the Advanced version for W2K Advanced Server.

I am now in the process of getting the upgrade version from 8.6 to 9.0 as ver 9.0 will allow you to backup Advanced Servers.
