We have an Avaya Ip Office 500 v2 [8.1(65)] with 8 SIP channels. We have an essential edition license.

Due to covid-19, we have advised all admin staff to work from home. I was able to get mobile twinning up and running

I have been looking at alternatives to Mobile twinning and came across the Avaya One-X application. This is purely because some staff live in areas with poor mobile/cell coverage and don't want to use their house phones and some don't want to use their mobile/cell phones.

From what I have seen, we need the "preferred license" for this to work. Is this correct?

I have asked a vendor in the UK to quote for this and they instead offered us "IP Office R11 Power User" licenses for each of the users we need this for.

I am not sure what is the right path or even if there is a better solution to Avaya One-X.

Any assistance in this regard would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Thanks derfloh.

I will ask for a quote for the upgrade as well.

Get the update and use Workplace app. it does not require One-X portal. Avaya One-X does.
Avaya Workplace is much better than the old One-X client anyway.

Thank you. So I will just need the upgrade license and not the super user licenses to use the Workplace app?

I don't think Avaya explain it well - One-X runs on a separate server or UCM but IX Workplace connects directly to the IP Office.

You will need the user licences and you are best getting power users as these aren't much more expensive than the others.

The license requirements is the same between Workplace and One-X app. The difference is Workplace does not require you to install One-X portal to get presence where as One-X app does. If you are going for telephony only then you do not need preferred edition and you just need softphone licenses but you won't get presence or anything else but just voice. If you want presence you need preferred edition and user licenses (teleworker/power user). Since you can't get licenses for your version you have to upgrade so it makes sense to go to R11 and use Workplace.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.
