I have a Metaframe XP server for windows 2000. The Farm has 20 users that they use some financial applications. We are intending to implant the Microsoft Office 97 for the users.

How functions the licensing of the Microsoft Office 97 in a Metaframe Server ?

I need to acquire the 20 licenses ?

Thanks,
Lago

Yes. You need a license for each user that will use the product.

Although I usually take the softer line "A license for each user that will use the product simultaneously". This works in situations where there are a lot of shift workers, eg 150 users on 3 shifts, assuming none overlap = 50 licenses.

All I do is limit the number of active sessions permissible to the available number of licenses (to keep everyone legal).

I hope this helps

The Microsoft Office 95 works in the same way?

Thanks,
Lago

Yes.

Another thing you could do is find out which of your users need which Office Apps.

eg, if one user needs Word and Excel, but never uses Access or Powerpoint why give them an Access and Powerpoint shortcut on their desktop/Published App?

This will cut down licensing costs.

With Powerpoint, you can legally install the reader without the need for a license - and I believe the same is true for the Access runtime components (as opposed to the full product). Outlook 98 was given away free, so here you have a considerable potential saving.

I hope this helps
