We are using SQL Server for the OLAP analysis only. Access databases with cubes created from them and then simply using pivot tables created in FrontPage and accessed using Internet Explorer. I do not want to use Windows authentification if that means I have to set every person up on the server just so they can drill down through the use of cubes. There is no updating, just browsing, isn't there a way to NOT have to set each user up on the server? I have not been able to get that to work yet. I have tried setting the guest user, it still tries to authenticate through the Windows userid and then fails. Any help would be appreciated, we are not wanting to use full blown SQL server yet, just the drill down capabilities.

I believe you can set up roles for the users and assign their ID's to the role. You can do this with the administrator account and Enterprise Manager (aka Microsoft Management Console) or from the command line in isql/Query Analyzer.

I have followed the instructions in the Microsoft SQLServer Analysis Services book from Microsoft Press and added the everybody group, done all that. The problem is, it still tries to use my windows userid. If I use the same password on the server as I use to login to the network, it works and allows me to access the data, if I change the password, it fails. I cant figure out how to tell the web components pivot table to use the guest userid.

Whether the SQL Server database is using your Windows NEtwork/Server ID or independent Database Security is a setting within SQL Server.

if your using web access to your cubes remember that the default account that connections are made through a web server with default security IUSER_MACHINENAME. You either need to creae a group that all users are members of and config that to be the account or change the security mode of the web service. If your using Active Directory on your network it would be even better to set security groups there.
