I'm having a problem with this notebook recognising anything on the USB 2 ports. Not even a keyboard or a mouse. Only USB 3 works on the USB 3 port. Removed devices from Device Manager, drivers, MS updates, BIOS etc. Any ideas why this is not working?
Win 8.1 64bit is the OS.

hmmm, Are the usb 2 ports active in bios/uefi? The usb 2 and usb 3 are usually different chips. And have different drivers. Only other reason is the chip is bad, or one of the 2 ports is broken and is shorting out the signal.

I dont see anything in the BIOS regarding USB settings.

hmm, pretty barebones options in bios on that model. USB2 is handled by the Intel chipset so drivers are loaded when chipset drivers are loaded. I would burn a Linux live cd, and boot from it, to rule out any software issues. If USB2 ports work under Linux, you have a sw issue, reloading the OS might be the only option since reloading the drivers didn't fix. If it don't work under Linux or Windows, it is hardware issue, it could be an internal device like the camera that uses the usb2 bus that is causing the issue.
