The Legend is much more complex than the Partner. However, it depends on the complexity of your specific installation. Some simple "key" type sset-ups are fairly easy to set up and work pretty much out-of-the-box - and there are some similarities to the Partner in such easy set-ups - but the Legend can get incredibly complex in larger, sophisticated installations.
Manuals are available for free on the Avaya website. The manuals are arranged by processor vintage - so you need to know that. Setting up voice mail can be "tricky" - depending on which version you have. Doing a search of previous posts - when you run into problems - should get you on your way. Be forewarned - the manuals are long and involved. Good Luck!
The absolute best place to find the kind of info you're looking for is by looking over the shoulder of an experienced tech while the system is programmed to a base level. It would be well worth the ~$250 to have a tech do the basic setup for you, then you can maintain it easily.
Take a look at the system programming manual for the Legend R6.1, with particular attention to the "Menu Hierarchy" table in Appendix B. I like that version because the info was less cluttered. Later versions add features, but program the same way. Once you get the conventions of the programming menu down, it's a pretty straight forward system to program when kept as a square key system. Then take the system and bench program it over a weekend to familiarize yourself with it. Experience is the ultimate teacher.
