Going to attempt to install a PRI for the first time with DID service on a 7.0 merlin legend with 2 cabinets. Also just installed winspm and will be my 1st time using it.
This is what I have so far.

100 DCD card it came with a cable with db50 connector on one end and some other connector on the other.

PRI order is b8zs,esf,custom,5ess with DID range 814-1900 - 1938 sending 3 digits, extension are 100 - 145 some exts. wont have a DID.

After reading some helpful tips on this site I might be able to pull it of... maybe.

I got a few dumb questions doe.
1 - What is the cable that came with the card used for?
I should just plug into the rj45 connector on card to the PRI rj45 jack and as far as a cable is it just the normal receive/transmit 1/2 4/5 pins on both ends or is it a special cable I need to order. 2 - I will be shuting down the system to plug in the card on Monday night hopefully, is there anything I need to do before shutting her down or is there a control shutdown procedure.
3 - Can I preprogram the PRI before the PRI provider bring in the rj45 jack which arrives Wed. the 1st. will it cause any errors or problem as far as service interruptions.
4 - Is there a way I can test the PRI configuration before the provider bring in the jack to see if it will come up, by pluging in a loop jack.

You definitly have an uphill battle. First off recieving 3 digits starting with 9 will mean you will have to make the system strip and add digits. (strip off the 9 and make it a 1) Also on the legend the did's will coinside with ext numbers. 1900 will goto 100 1902 will goto 102 etc...

Do a forum search of PRI and start printing out what you find because you will need it, and most of your questions have already been answered

I agree with ttech, I have been there and done that!

Besides reading the posts you are advised to download the manuals from the Avaya website, in particular the Legend System Planning document. Take the time to READ and UNDERSTAND the programming and procedures! If you get stumped, post to the forum with a printout of the PRI config. This way we can all see what the problem may be and offer suggestions.

In reference to the DID number block you have, I have two suggestions. (1)Change the Dial Plan and digits sent to four(4) digits.
(2) Get a different block from the service provider that does not have a 9 or 0 in the Y position of the station address, ie: NXX-XYXX. I would also get more DID numbers, 50 or 100. Plan ahead, this way the customer has them when they need them.

You want numbers that don't require translating to make them work or cause conflict in future changes (And the customer will want changes in the future!)

You can use a loop plug in the 100DCD module or at the other end where you connect to the NIU, but all that will do is verify the continuity of the DS1 loop to that point. You did not mention the service provider, but they should be cooperative in testing before cutover, if you have other service that will ride the DS1 besides the PRI. Once you have connected the DS1 to the Telco NIU and have programmed the 100DCD parameters, you should be able to test with the provider and the provider should leave the B and D channels in service.

Hope this helps!

Thanks guys for your expertice, and I did download the manual from Avaya web site and read about PRIs and DIDs, I just did not know to much about the hardware part of the job, the software part dont look so bad, but yet I have not program a Legend before to know better. My thinking after reading about deleting and adding DID digits was the same as ttech's, about deleting one digit which would be the "9" and adding a "1" is that not possible or do I need to go back to the provider and see if I can get the exact range xxx-x100 - xxx-x138. Also I tryed to convince my contact to get more numbers for future but they are not willing. As far as changing there numbering plan from 3 to 4 digits that would be alot of work and more time for a rookie like me, that would also consist of adding VM boxes, rerecording auto attn. etc.

I would go back to the provider and get matching numbers to fit your Dial Plan. Why make extra work, especially if this is your first Legend/Magix!

When the Bell companies assign DID numbers, they are usually in fixed blocks of 20 or 40 or 100, etc. 39 numbers is kind of an odd amount.

That extra connector and cable assembly with the 100DCD Module is for Digital Data Service. The 100DCD provides two DS0 channels for external data connections. I have never used one, but that can be useful in applications where the DS1 is shared.

Just pluged in the 100DCD. I noticed the card is not the same as the others in the system, its a lot shorter, but I pluged it in anyway. It look kind of odd. My question is, did I get the right card for this system or is this card made for another box.

The reason it probably looks odd is that you need to install the 100DCD card in a plastic clamshell to properly install it into the Legend carrier. You can use this card in the Legend however you will not be able to utilize the built in CSU/DSU. You may want to consider getting a 100D card which would be a lot less expensive since it doesn't have the built in CSU. Either module you decide to use, you should install a external CSU.

Okay, here is my printout for the PRI. Testing for the span is tommorow. look and see if I did this right.

Thanks

I just reviewed your PRI printout and found several items missing.
The Call-by-Call Service Table has no entries. You need at least Entry 0 and Patterns 0 thru 9 = 0 thru 9. Without this entry no calls will be completed. Next after Call Type, in the NtwkServ field select NO SERVICE for the first entry.

Moving back up to the Special Service Table, you may need to modify the defaults here if your service provider does/does not require certain digits deleted. But wait until you are placing test calls on a live PRI before making any changes. This table is used for IDDD, OPERATOR + calls, IC 00 calls, and 1+ calls. You can also read about this in the System Planning Guide and Feature Guide if you haven't done so.

You need to delete trunk line 848, this is channel 24 your D CHANNEL! It can NOT be in any Pool or line group or assigned to anything or your PRI won't work! --This is a common mistake for first timers.--
All call setups and teardowns happen on this channel between the CO switch and the Legend/Magix.

You might want to get a copy of the "Initial Programming List for PRI Setup" from the FAQs link on this forum for a review. But be careful it has a couple of 'gotchas'. You might also check another thread posted about this very same subject that I have commented on for more info.

Thanks for all your help, DIDs, and outbound all worked.
Monday we will port over their main number. Other question
when the number is poted over is it the same procedure as routing a DID call, say if they send me the last 4 digits.
Example: expected digits - 4
pattern to match - XXXX (last 4 digits of number)
delete - 4
add - 100 (main phone)
Also need to but the PRI pool in ARS 1st. choise, on monday.

Talads,

Yes, the process is the same for the main number as for your other DID numbers. So if you have to do deletes or adds, it would be the same.

I'm glad you got everything working....
