Does the 3.1 processor support Caller id ? And will any of the other slots support it ? I have very little experience with these phone systems. Any help is appreciated. What other info is needed, to know if cid is supported by the telco ?

This is a strange problem. Yesterday there were 3 MLX phones that were reported dead. Two on one module and one on another. After unplugging/replugging they work! Today only one extension was reported. Same resoluton. Maybe one phone is bad and causing glitching ?

As for the CID, I am waiting on the telco to activate. The system report shows it recognized the ID version and the phones show "no callerid" and before simply said "trunk" so in theory we should be good to go...Thanks agai to all the folks here that replied with great information!

My bad on the "weird" problem. It was simply a few ports that needed to be reseated. They worked fine after that. Its going to take a couple weeks for the telco to activate the callerid. So I will make a final report after that is completed. Thanks again to everyone here with great tips and replys.

You mean you had to reseat a few of the modules inside the carrier? (When I hear/read "ports", I think of the line & station jacks on the modules themselves) [wink]

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Actually YES, the ports as in the station jacks! It was strange. The system is in a dusty area. I can only presume that the connectors were dirty or just slightly mis-aligned. After unplugging that station can plugging back in they were fine and no more complaints.

Are you using 8-pin plugs on the cords plugged into the station ports? I've found that 6-pin plugs will sometimes misalign, and need to be pulled out and replugged.

Oh dear. [sad] Dust is a major enemy of electronics. [lightsaber]

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

TTT makes a good point about why it’s a good idea to use 8P8C plugs with 8P8C jacks and so on. [thumbsup2]

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

They are 6pin. thats explains it. The other ends (at phone) are all 8pin. I wonder why that was done that way. Its been like that probably forever. At least I know to double check each socket in the future. Thanks fellas!

8P8C jacks and plugs were common because the original Merlin telephones used all 4 pairs for full operation.

AT&T, when designing new hardware, tried to make things backwards compatible.

For example....when you upgraded from a 410 to....say....a Partner ACS, you could use existing cables and jacks (Station ports on Partner modules and Partner phones are 8P8C even though only the 2 inside pairs are used).

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Well the caller id seems to be working. Partially. Set the LS DELAY for all trunks. Only the number comes thru no the name. Does the MLX20L need to be changed to show the name ?

You will need to program a "toggle" button (on each MLX phone)to see Caller ID Name. If you wanted to see both at once - you would need to upgrade the processor the Magix firmware - but then you would have to ditch the ATL phones and boards.

Thanks for the tips! I will program the toggle for now. This system config has 008MLX but no ATL boards so would a firmware update to the R7.0 processors do the trick ?
All the phones are Ayaya MLX10D or MLX20L units.
The config is the same as at the top of this post execpt the processor is now a 7.0 and the 800 and 408 boards were all replace with the GS/LS ID versions.

If you have no BIS-type phones or modules - you can upgrade the processor to Magix R4, V7. You would then get a 2-line Caller ID display on incomming calls - showing both name and number - when available.

I found the feature code I need for the Merlin. It is code *763. Thanks for the feedback on the Magix procesor. Are there any other compelling reasons to use the Magix R4 ? Right now the users only wanted CID.

Oh yeah. There are no BIS style phones. If there were it would be worth replacing them.

Setting a feature code/button on the phones works great. The MLX20 and MLX10 series has the CallID Name feature in the list of options. Never needed the *763.
Is there a way to set that as the deafult instead of number ? Just a thought. Most people really care about WHO is calling not the number. Thanks once again to all the techs here that do such a great job of sharing their knowledge and experience with others. I appreciate your help very much.

Unfortunately no - the number will always display first. Also remember that many callers - depending on what type of phone and/or line they are calling from - the call will not display any name (data e.g., Vonage, T1/PRI DID's, cell phones, etc.)
