Hi, my customer has had some issues in the expansion carrier. This all started when the 007MLM in slot 6 went bad. After I replaced the vm, slot 7 (408 gs/ls mlx) and slot 8 (408 gs/ls mlx) didn't work. But the 100d in slot 9 worked. Then I replaced the 408 in slot 7. The 408 in slot 8 and the 100d in slot 9 do not work. I replaced the backplane and the 100d card today. Everything seems to work except the trunks associated with the 100d are forever busied out. No matter how many times I reset the slot, busy out and restore the slot, or busyout and restore the trunks, the trunks remain busied out. Any ideas would be helpful because I'm at a loss. Hopefully it's not the processor.
Thanks,
Brian

1st post references an 007MLM. Check that all of the active ports are assigned to the VM calling group.

Yes all of the active ports are assigned to the vm calling group. I read somewhere on here about clearing messages from the display on the mlx phones. My coworker also said sometimes when there is a missed internal call that the mwl goes on even though no message was left. Has anyone ever heard of that?

You can refresh the message waiting indicator via WinSPM. I forget exactly where it is located to do so.

It can be found under MAINTENANCE in STANDARD SPM:

Menu > Maintenance > System > MW LP Update

That should do it. Sometimes you need to do that if you change Voice Mail units.

Thanks guys, I've actually done that procedure twice. It worked initially, but the customer is still complaining that the lights aren't working properly. They are not under contract with my company so they have to pay as they go. They haven't asked me to come back in a few days now so I'm guessing they might just live with it for now.

TTT, customer says all the MW lights. I'm going there today again to figure this out. I'll update later. Thanks.

This caught my attension. Is it service effecting !!

"If you had the password to Monitor in spm and could turn on tracing for the trunks you would have been able to see if the calls truly hit your system. Having to rely on the provider to give good information is dodgy. You can find the monitor password if you examine winspm.exe in a hex reader app. Once you find the password and connect to monitor you can issue ? to learn the commands. Be sure to turn off all tracing before you quit or they will always run and occupy cpu."

Below is a print out of group calling. As you can see it says under "group coverage" that it is covering groups 1 and 30. There are no members in group 1. I deleted it just now. I left some test messages on various extensions and the lights came on right away. Then I checked and deleted the messages and the lights turned off right away. What's strange is I restored a backup from last year and I don't remember even touching the group coverage options.

So it turns out that on the phones themselves when I press MENU, MSGS it shows a *VMS 770 message. When I press delete the message light goes away.
Glad that's fixed.
Brian

You can also print group cover 30 to find all extension that do cover to voicemail.
Also the menu msg button deletes text messages sent between users. Although I don't ever recall trying that on a MLX phone. Definitely works for 44xx phones.

From the Legend pocket reference book:

Messaging Program Code Feature Code
Leave Message
After calling *25 25
Without calling 53 + ext num
Cancel message left *53 + ext num
Message LED off (for non-display *54 54
telephones
Message operation mode (for ETR, *54 54
MLS and analog multiline display telephones)2
Posted Message *751
Send/Remove Message3 *38 38+ext num

1 Centralized telephone programming only.
2 Used to enter/exit Message operation mode. MLS and analog multiline
telephones return to normal call handling after 15 seconds if the user has no
messages. If an MLS or analog multiline telephone user has messages, the
user must delete the messages or use the feature code or programmed
button to exit Message operation. For ETR telephones, the feature code or
programmed button must be used to exit Message operation mode
regardless of whether the user has messages.
3 Display telephones only. Programming and feature codes are used with
analog multiline telephones only.

Thanks again CarGoSki. I'll note this for the future.

even knowing the password, finding it in a hex editor wasn't easy unless I searched for the exact string (over 8100000 "characters" in the file), considering how easy it is to find online( any "yahoo" could do it), I don't think having it embedded in the program shouldn't be cause for concern. :)

When Linux is Free and Open, who needs Windows or Gates?

So, I'm back onsite because a few of the extensions the MWL stays on for a really long time after the messages have been deleted. Plus, when I go into menu, msgs there is a VMS 770 message there. How come some exts have this problem and some don't? How do I fix the exts that have the problem?
