I did a google and found this about Legato and EDM.
"EMC will support Legato's products and existing customers. It plans to maintain the Legato brand as a separate entity and integrate functionality from its own software line. EMC will eventually drop its Enterprise Data Manager (EDM) product in favor of Legato's data management offerings, the company said."

So, I am here to solicit help from Legato knowledgable people that may have had some recent experience with replacing EDM with Legato. Can anyone tell me what tape formatting was used on EDM?

Just because the VERITAS documentation states a certain thing does not make it a fact and that is truth.

Hi,

we where 6 Years a EDM Customer and migrated to networker one Year ago.

What exactly do you want to now ?

The Tape Forat of EDM is absolutly propriate.
Even Networker can not read it !

There is a possibility to "manage" a reduced EDM out of Networker, but this is horrible !

I want to use the EDM scratch tapes in a NetBackup solution. That software reads the internal label of a tape and allows/prohibits writing to the tape sccording to the header format. NetBackup will automatically place a new label on the following types:
ANSI
TAR
DBR
RS-MTF_1
CPIO
AOS/VS
MTF
BE-MTF-1
If it is not one of the above then I will have to load, mount and relabel the tapes manually. A very long and laborious endeavor.

The Tape Format is called EBFS

Epoch Bitfile System

This is original from Epoch, the company which created EDM before EMC bought them 10 years ago.

Thank you for your replies.

Sounds like I got some scripting to do....

I believe that as long as you enable Auto Media Management in the autochnager configuration, NetWorker will see your old EDM tapes as "blank" since they do not have a NetWorker label on them and will automatically label as needed. NetWorker will not be able to differentiate between different EDM pools; therefore, you need to make sure you only have tapes that you want to recycle in the library.

Good news...I finally was able to transfer the tapes from the EDM silo to the Netbackup silo. I did a test backup and Netbackup accepted the tape and overwrote the header with a new Netbackup label.

Thanks to all for your help.
