I have spent countless hours googling for a way to combine data from multiple tapes onto a single tape in legato. I would like to think that legato has some way to handle this, but I may have just been previously spoiled with TSM reclamation. My problem is that I have several tapes that are less than 10% used, and I am trying to find a way to combine them. they show up as appendable, but it doesn't seem to ever append data to these tapes. there are a couple different pools, and I understand that groups pointing to poolA will not share tapes with groups pointing to poolB, I know there will always be some amount of tapes that will have some empty space on them, but only using 10% seems a little wasteful to me. Can anyone help, or at least point me in the general direction. I am not very knowledgable when it comes to Legato, but I am very good with syntax manuals or finding things via searching, I just need some sort of jumpstart.

Thanks,

Mike

nsrstage is cool....
Lookup nsrmm -f <devicename> -l -m -R -y

Since you have the data on tape and not disk, i would suggest cloning instead of staging, so look up the nsrclone command.

cloning is going to create a copy of the data on another tape, leaving the original behind. If he's not careful when he deletes the original, the clone will also be deleted.

Moving data from one volume to another volume is exactly what "nsrstage" is intended to do; this is different from the "NSR Stage" resource type that establishes rules for moving data from file/adv_file devices to tape (a process that uses "nsrstage").
