Hi,

I hv installed legato on WinNT for SAP/Oracle.

But from the day it is configured, every second day one or the other problem comes.

- I m totaly iuncertain abt its compression rates, some days it will backup 49 GB, other day 53 GB, other 56 GB
- Soe days it will write 2gb in a tape and says that it is full and start looking for other tape and since we hv kept only one tape for that kind of backup (which is max 4 gb only - archive log backups)

Even my support people are unable to find a workaround..they say we r doing , v r doing...

now i m in afix, i hv to take out legato and may be go for another software or something like that.

Suport people says , legato suport is very slow, and v hv observed that, it is 2 months now and it is not stable.

where should i go.

Vijay

This is not a problem for Legato.Because the tape_Driver or the tape is dirty.Cleaning the tape_Driver or relable the tape may resolve this.

Hope this help

1.Explain what technology of tape is used.

2.If it's DLT - I'm not surprised.

3.Check system log for tape errors.

The whole description points to a non-Legato problem, but Hardware ! "Long live king Moshiach !"

Varying compression records has a lot to do with the type of data being compressed and then the number of times the file is compressed. For example, perhaps you have a compression directive active on the group. At the same time you have hardware compression enabled on the drives. Ever try to zip a file twice? The file gets bigger--so this is the same principle.

Maybe this helps.
