I've been using Legato 5.5.1 on Windows NT 4.0 network. Now we rebuilt our network on Windows 2000. Does anybody have experience using Legato (I assume the latest version, 6) to backup Windows 2000 machines, including Exchange 2000? Any input is appreciated.

I am running Networker 5.5.2 for NT 4.0 which works well. We have 5 Windows 2000 servers which I have installed Networker 5.7 on with good results as well. At one time Legato did not recommend running 5.7 for NT 4.0 so I stuck with 5.5.2. ( not broken don't fix ).
For Exchange I have just finished testing the Exchange Module 2.0 again with good results.

Yes,
We are currently using Legato 6.0.1 to backup Windows 2000. We have had problems backing it up from the server. The clients backups worked fine, but the server side wouldn't kick off. We found that in addition to putting the server in the server's file, we also had to add it in Win2K's hostfile. Of course the clients we have that are using DNS do not have this problem. The biggest surprise with the Win2K install is when you install from CD, it will automatically bring up a webpage. Don't install from the webpage. Kill it and install out of the explorer. I hope this helps.

Networker Laptop Question:

Everyone. I just loaded Networker Laptop and have used the HEAL feature to restore several WIN98 laptops. A complete restore is done in less than an hour over a 100 Meg connection at about 750KB/sec.

Problem: When trying to perform the same HEAL to a Windows 2000 Professional laptop, I only get about 5KB/sec and it takes more than a day to recover....using the same 100 Meg connection.

Any known issues that I am unaware of.

I just installed Legato 5.5.2 on a Windows 2000 Server. One of the things we have to do is start the Storage Portmapper Service. However, it is not in the services list. I've done many searches and can't come up with anything. How can I get this service to show up???

Legato 5.5.2 doesn't support Win 2000 - need to be 5.7 or higher ( can use the 5.7 client with a 5.5.2 server )
