hey... what would be a good place to start to learn max 4?
right from scratch...
get to use a system with it itstalled on for a couple of months... and would really like to learn..
i know there's lots of tutorials out there...
but where's a good place to get multilevel help...
like creating a sphere.. texturing... annimating...
then to another bigger project... kinda goin up the latter sorta training lol

You could try to see if there is a school near you that teaches classes using Max. If so there are probably several classes, such as polygon modeling, nurbs modeling, animation, texturing, etc...

There are also some fairly good books available, such as &quot;3ds max 4 in Depth&quot;, &quot;3ds max 4 Fundamentals&quot;, and &quot;3ds max 4 Magic&quot;. These are worth it if you are good at learning on your own. Still, you most likely will need to get some sort of additional help from time to time. Forums like this one are good for specific questions.

Finally, there are hundreds of tutorials on the internet. Max 4 tutorials are starting to pop up, but you should be able to apply any tutorial using an older version of Max and apply it to the newer version. Some good sites are


No matter what course you choose, (or even a combination of all three) you will need two things... time and practice. 3D programs are huge and unless we can practice using them on a regular basis, we forget easily.

another g'd way if you don't have the money is to use tutorials of the net like azhdeem said and you could also go throu it systematicly one thing at a time....start with one feature and keep doing things with it untill you think you learned enough then go onto another...it sometimes takes awhile depending on your pace but its a g'd way to learn how everything works I Em Not A God
