One thing I might suggest is the Delphi help files... they are very extensive and include many examples and a tutorial to get you started.

Teach Yourself Delphi 3 in 14 days written by Dan Osier, Steve Grobman & Steve Batson I don't think there is a Teach yourself Delphi 6, but this will launch you off.
In fact this was the book included by Borland when I bought my copy of Delphi 3
