LDN field on the TN

What is the function of assigning an LDN on a TN? The NTP talks about assigning them on attendant consoles and ICI keys, etc. but doesn't explain what purpose they serve when LDN 0, LDN 1, etc. is assigned to a phone's TN. Thank you.

LDN stands for listed directory number ...i think it is kindoff fallback to number. not too sure
