If I have ld43 in midnight's will it do an automatic dump to the PCMCIA CF?
I will be installing this card as new and I'm going to save all system data then leave it in slot A so will this work?

Any help would be great.
Thanks.

There is an easy way to confirm:

>LD 135
.MIDN

Let it run, then look at the date stamp of the database.rec on the PCMCIA card

To be certain, make one change to a TN before you run MIDN

The system knows when it needs to data dump based on service changes made.

will I need to format the new compact flash befor this will work.

I would just try to back up to it before trying anything else.

The LD 143 books have the procedure.

No, it will not dump to the PCMCIA. We install PCMCIA cards in all of our Option 11s and archive the database to the PCMCIA manually once a month. You must be connected to TTY 0. Go to LD 143 and type UPGRADE. Choose option 3, UTILITIES. Choose option 2, ARCHIVE DATABASE UTILITIES. Choose option 3, ARCHIVE A CUSTOMER DATABASE. Name your archive and hit enter. We always name ours the date, i.e. 032709. It will take about 10 seconds. Once complete, enter Q to quit.

Excellent. I'm glad you could confirm that. I wasn't certain :)

That is what I was told but did not belive them.
Thanks for all the help.

One more tip, If your Option 11 is release 25 or 3.0, then you will need a patch to keep it from initializing from time to time. Those releases had an issue where after typing the UPGRADE command and pressing enter, the system would INI. Release 25.30, 25,40, and 25.40B you will need patch MPLR17319. For Release 3, you will need patch MPLR18747. Releases higher than 3.0 should be fine.
