Does anyone have any information such as study material, level of difficulty, etc for the LCNA test? I'd like to give it a shot, but really don't want to print out the 600+ page Networker Admin guide!!

Thanks.

I was speaking with someone that obtained there LCNA and the test was fairly easy.

Also got a tip that they are changing the format of the test and will become more difficult (Like a Microsoft test)

I am taking the Admin class next week and scheduling the test for the following Monday. Ken Ciolek

Hi,

The LCNA for UNIX test wasn't too hard. I heard the LCNS test was harder. I was going to take it, but now that NetWorker 7 is out, I'll probably just wait for those exams..

Hope this helps..

The LCNA exam has 43 questions, and is pretty basic. If you have used NetWorker and configured a backup scheme and set up pools, groups, schedules, then you should be ok.

On the other hand, with just 43 questions, all you need to miss is about 6 questions to fail.

The LCNS is about 200 questions, and they don't tell you what the passing mark is.

I heard the test wasn't to hard. I am going to take it in the next couple of weeks. Did you take it yet?

As mentioned in the "NetWorker for Dummies?" thread as well ...

There is something that may help to understand NW better.
Download the following document:

ftp.legato.com/pub/NetWorker/German/tdocs/tids_2002.pdf

It is an intro to NW and starts from scratch:
- Concepts
- Installation
- Configuration
- Lots of examples
- It covers both, Windows & UNIX/Linux
- It is in English (although the URL points to German)
- It is for free
- It is heavy (about 7.5MB representing 444 pages)

It seems to be a good start.

Yes i did. And i don't think it is too hard. However, there
are a lot of "network related questions" that will be asked
as well.

Hi,

I'm studying for LCNA and I was wondering if you guys know any web site or any book where I could find some sample questions for the exam just to practice a little bit.
It would really help, I mean I don't have a clue about how the exam looks like.
I tried to search the web but I didn't find anything useful. And on the Legato web site they don't have any single sample question.
May be you can help me out.

Thanks a lot,

Alina

Hi All,

I got a dead line to clear LCNA For UNIX by 30th of this month.I'm going through the manuals avilable in legato's web site. With the daily work load i could not able to concentrate much on the exam.I request all the experts/group members to help me in passing the exam.It would be really great and helpful to me if some sends some dumps or sample questions to oops564@yahoo.com.

Thanks in Advance to one and everyone.

Rita

Look on my message dated 05/29.
Download that doc - it is a good guideline.
Concentrate on database management - this is the most
difficult part in NW (easy but hard to understand).
The NetWorker related questions are not very difficult.
There a a number of network related questions as well as
NW has to rely on a perfect name resolution.

Besides that, it just depends on your experience...

Good luck.

Thank you 605 (Instructor).I downloaded the pdf.its really good.Do you have any sample questions with you ?

one more bad news for me.my manger asked me to prephone my exam as he is sending me to NNM training.I must take the exam before 25th of this month.

Please help me.

Hi ritacool,

sorry but to my knowledge there are no such questions
available. And i know a bunch of collegues who never have
seen such as well.

I personally think that basic NW knowledge is fundamental
but experience is even more important. If you do not have
it already, it will be very hard to build it up during this
short period.

Hello 605,

Thanks for the reply.I'm working hard to do my best.

How the questions will be framed. Are they too practical or too theoritical ? Please let me know.
As you already suggested I'll concentrate on database mangement.
I guess the No of Qs would be 43 or 45 and they will be of multipule answers type.

The PDF what you suggested covers most of the course curriculam. If I'm done with this PDF(including practicles),I hope it will be easy to pass theexam.

Have a nice time.

Rita

The questions are rather practical.
You are right about the number of questions.

Good luck.

Hello 605,

Can I review my questions after the completion of exam, like in SUN exams. If i'm not sure about the answer can I skip that question and attend the same later ?

Please let me know.

Thanks
Rita

The exam is a standard "Prometric" exam. Although i have
never attended any other than NetWorker exams, i am sure
that they are like all others, from what i've heard:

- it is multiple choice
- you may review any question at any time
- it does not matter whether you skip a question or just
give any answer, as you ma review it later.
- you may even add comments if you think the question is
wrong or whatever reason you may have.

Don't drive yourself crazy - LCNA is pretty simple. LCNS
is much more difficult (as expected ;-)

Thanks 605.

I'm getting confidence after interacting with you.
Hey yesterday i found some sampple questions at
They give some idea about exam.Around 10-15 questions.

You can suggest this to some one who approches u rgarding the exam.

Have fun

Rita

Hi 605,

Please tell what happens if if a save set is deleted (nsrmm D s) ?

Thanks
Rita

Don't completely understand:

What do you mean - logically or physically? In fact nsrmm
will be responsible for both - if you label the media you
also adjust the media db entries (and the client file index,
if the save set is still browsable).

Logically just means that you delete the entry from the
media db. So you cannot access the save set any longer.
However, as you have not touched the media, you can still
rebuild both, the media db and the client file index by
scanning the tape. With the media db you can already
recover but if you want to browse, you need the CFI info
as well.

Physically means that you relabled the tape and overwrote
the media. You still can recover part of it (as i pointed
out on such a thread about 2 weeks ago) or you must give
the media to a data recovery company and rebuild it
properly).
