Hello,

My ASUS LCD screen has developed a strange problem all the sudden, without my having made any changes to its configuration. It just started all the sudden. Anywyas...

Gray hues took on a pinkish cast, and the menu bars (like right now, the menu bar of my browser says 'ASUSTek Computer Inc.-Forum') -- which normally are a gradient that goes from blue to gray -- was weirdly banded in shades of pink, magenta, and yellow. The mouse pointer shadow takes on a vague greenish outline, as well. I rebooted to see if that would help, and noticed that the Windows banner (the four-colored one that shows up as it starts loading up) was weirdly hued as well. I can read the text and all, its just the colors that are strange. There also seems to be a sort of vague pixel wavering going on, like the pixels are now more prominent.

I have tried various things to little effect. I know I have not changed it from its native display mode (though I have tested changing it back and forth to see if it helps -- it doesn't). I had it set to a purely black screen saver for about 30 minutes and when I turned it back on, it _did_ seem to be corrected for a little while before shifting back to this problem. I am now trying a lengthy period with a white screen saver to see if, perhaps, that will somehow help (I know it has more to do with ghosting problems, which this doesn't seem to have, but I don't have a lot of ideas at the moment).

I've taken a screen capture (here) which shows that the problem isn't the video card, as such -- there's nothing strange at all. But here is a (large, unfortunately) picture of the screen taken with a digital camera which shows the weird color banding in the here is one showing the shutdown menu with a pink, radiating circle which again seems to have do with the gradient on that particular screen not displaying properly.

If you've any experience with this kind of problem, please let me know and detail what steps (if any) you took to repair it. I would absolutely love to get it fixed on my own without having to turn it in for service, as I need to have it with me for a business trip in three days.

(Finally, if it is an LCD problem -- erk -- does it necessarily mean its about to die on me, or can it last a long while more without difficulty?)

First things first - have you checked the cable? If it turns out to be a loose cable you'll kick yourself!

It could be the monitor or it could be the video card. Can you 1) try a different monitor and 2) try the monitor on a different PC?

If either the card or the monitor is faulty then your only option is to replace them or get them professionally repaired.

The color in the picture you linked looks like your PC is using the "Wheat" color scheme (Display Properties Appearance tab). Try using "Windows Classic" and see if that fixes some of the issues.

hi Balerion,

I too am having exactly the same problem you have described and I wonder if you found a solution

Indeed I did. It turned out that moisture had somehow gotten into the monitor, which I discovered when in a fit of desperation I was tilting it this way and that and found that tilting it onto its side made the problem disappear completely only for it to return again when I turned it back around.

I left the monitor on its side for a day or so, and when I put it back on the problem basically went away.
