Hello, I hope someone here has the experience to help me...

This monitor has a dead backlight. The assembly is taken apart, and the monitor is laying alone. Do you have any tips on getting inside TO the backlight?

Thanks for reading.

Thanks a lot, Frank. I used a guide much like this to pull the display, but I still am having difficulty locating the backlight. I can see the power cables, but I am leery of opening up the screen further, because I honestly don't know which way to start. I'm guessing I do NOT open up the front of the display, and it is found from the back, but that is all I really can deduct.

Do you have any ID of the TFT display? Do a search for this display part number. You may find the datasheet, and maybe a hint on how to open it to change the backlight (with hopes that the defective part is the backlight tube itself, and noit the inverter or the cable that goes to it.)
From the TFT P/N, there are sites that do sell parts for them, whenit's feasible.

I do, and I have tried several different search engines with different combinations of words. I can only get retailers and complete screen purchase offers. I think I'm just going to press my luck and try :)

Yes, they have to be unsoldered however. The replacement also must be resoldered.

It's fun to see how the yellow Google ads at the top of this page, are suggesting sites dedicated to IBM notebook repairs. I never go to these sites, but clever marketing.

Gotta love contextual marketing, bleh. Doesn't work on me... I go out of my way to search for those vendors that aren't spamming their messages everywhere.

I found the backlight. I broke it, but found it! It had two rubber tabs that had to be pressed in to release a metal bar covering it, only, when I pressed the tab, it shattered the glass underneath. No biggy, but now I am trying to find out how to disconnect it.
