layers pallet will not open, illustrator 10 1

neither F7 nor choosing 'Layers' from the menu opens the Layers Pallet - any ideas??

Do your Links and Actions show up? They are usually grouped in with the Layers palette.

thanks for posting an answer - actually, i gave up and uninstalled re-installed the program and viola! all pallets are again visible. go figure... thanks again!

I can open all of my windows except layers.
