I am building a website using tables throughout. I also used layers to build a drop-down menu for one of the navigation bars. In Dreamweaver everything seems in order but when I browse in IE the menu freaks out and goes to one side. I have made to screenshots but I don't know how to paste them inside this window for someone to see what is happening.

Hi, I'm not sure I can be much help to you as I am also struggling with Layers.

I do know that you can set exactly where a layer is shown n the properties by setting a value for L and T. I think by default layers are always displayed on the left hand side of the page.

Best of luck

I have been using dreamweaver to make my site and I have found that layers and tables don't mix very well. I have done some troubleshooting and found that my nav menu created in fireworks which appears horizontally accross the top of the page had to be exported three times to dreamweaver before it displayed properly. I also deleted the page that was having the problems and started from scratch. It seemed to display fine after i started from scratch. works in netscape, firefox and ie7. you might give the export a try.

Most common reason why tables and layer don't mix well is that DW gui is misleading where the layer is inserted with the respect to the code ....not the positioning of it.
In other words...if layer needs to be located in the 1st row of the table then the layer/div tag needs to be there respectivly.(not at the end of the body tag and then positioned so it looks as if it is placed in the row)

Keeping an eye on the code will eliminate a lot of 'design' issues.....
for what it is worth....
All the best!
