Newbie to Dreamweaver MX 2004. I'm trying to use a layer to display a separate page of my site, but I can't work it out. For example, I have a front page with an empty layer (that I want my new page to be displayed in) called display (for the time being). When a link is clicked in another layer, I want the relevant page to be displayed in the empty layer.

My links are flash text, but I can't set the target in the flash text settings as my 'display' layer.

one way would be to look into show/hide layer behavior for small "content" display but if you are looking to load entire page than look into Iframe or frames....
frames have their time and place..as in some intranets and controlled environments...generally I would stay away from them if possible...
...(
You can also search this forum on frames and see some of the issues that you may be facing down the road...
All the best!

Thanks Lebisol!

I decided against frames, and after speaking with a friend who had recently completed a similar project, have used the behaviours 'modifier' to display and hide layers when necessary. This meant I couldn't use Flash text as before, rather, I used normal hyperlinks. This seemed to work well. It's a shame I didn't get to speak to him before I posted =).

Your post gave me some good ideas for future sites though, for which I thankyou.

excellent,
if you like post some code and we may be able to find a workarround...up to you..
All the best!
