Im kind of a noob to Visio so bear with me if this is a dumb question. Im making a drawing of how our network is set up. My boss wants me to make a simple drawing of the network then lay another drawing on top of it that has the details of the network (with ip addresses etc.). He wants me to do this because other people may want to see the network layout. But he doesnt want to hand out the ip addresses to some people that my want the drawing. Is this possible and if so could anyone explain to me how to do it?

You didn't say which version of Visio you are using, so here's the procedure for Visio 2000:

On your new drawing, click on View -> Layer Properties to open the Layer Properties dialog box. Click on the New button to create a new layer and name it "Network." Put a check mark under the Visible, Print, Active, Snap, and Glue columns. Click on the OK button to close the dialog box. Place your network shapes on the drawing. Re-open the Layer Properties dialog box and create another layer called "Addresses" and configure it the same as the "Network" layer. De-activaate the "Network" layer. Close the dialog box and place your addresses on the drawing.

Now when you want to show both the address and the network, open the Layer Properties dialog box and make both layers visible. If you want to display only one layer, make only that layer visible.

This should get you started.
