Is there a way to expand effects, say if you did an emboss command, so that when the layer is modified in any way, the emboss does not change with the layer. Basically, it would be like having an original layer with no effects applied.
The problem I'm having has to do with setting an emboss to a layer, then I need to edit this layer to remove some pixels (but not change the emboss in any way). The layer changes on the corners where the emboss takes place--when I erase into a corner, the emboss changes to meet the new shape of the layer. Is there a way to somehow lock the emboss in place so when changing the shape of the layer, the emboss does not change with it?
I see what you mean now. You want to add the emboss then modify it after the emboss is in place. The only way I know of doing it is the method I use, BUT it will mean you can't change the emboss settings ever again.
If that is ok, then:
- make a new layer,
- put the new blank layer beneath the embossed layer,
- click on the embossed layer
- press Ctrl-E (Merge Down)
- then remove whatever you want.
The emboss is now there but the settings are merged into the layer and it is one static layer, instead of a dynamic layer.
