I have had probably 100 interviews. For only the second time yesterday, I actually arrived late for one. I made the mistake of thinking the interview was 3:30 instead of 3:00. I showed up about 3:15. I still had the interview fortunately.

It wouldn't be so unfortunate if I didn't consider the best opportunity I have ever had. She said she was interviewing about 14 people. Are my chanaces at getting this job already sunk?

Thanks.

langleymass,

This probably won't make you feel any better, but the other side screws up, too. I interviewed for a promotion some years ago and then waited to hear back. Nothing, except Personnel called to ask for a new application for their files. I gave them one and continued to wait. On October 8 I called the Director who had interviewed me to ask about my status.

He was perplexed a bit. He said I had gotten the job and was to start October 13 (6 days later, 50 miles away). He thought Personnel had told me- I don't know what the twits in Personnel thought.

Good luck to you.

Tim

I thought this would have died. But something interesting happened--the job was reposted on their company web site. I e-mailed the person who had interviewed me, and she wrote back promptly:

"Yes, we decided that we really needed to hire someone with more specific senior level messaging experience."

Basically, the job hasn't been filled. I'm not sure what to do about this. I definitely want to write something back.

This employer has a reputation for being a very good employer in town. I think this still holds true based on this experience.

During this job search, I have interviewed for SIX jobs with six different organizations that were reposted or re-advertised after I was turned down for whatever reason.

Also, I heard this from a movie director. This is the rule in Hollywood apparently:

If you are early, you are on time.
If you are on time, you are late.
If you are late, you are fired.

I'm not sure what to do about this. I definitely want to write something back."

My thought is that at this point it would be inappropriate for you to write back to her to try to get that same job. But it would be completely appropriate for you to write back to her and say something like "I wish you luck in finding that right person for this position. Blah Blah Company has a great reputation, and I'm sure you'll be able to attract the best candidates. Your reputation for yadda yadda, blah blah, and xyz is what made me so interested in this position. If there are other positions for which you feel I would be better suited, either now or in the future, please consider me."

This way, you're not being a pest and you're not questioning her judgement, but you are being persistent, and letting her know that if you come to work for her you'll be a happy employee.

Jeremy,

Those are good comments. This organization does have a very good reputation as a good employer in town. I just wrote back.
