lasso tool blinks in 5.5, why? and how to stop it? 1

When using the lasso tool to do clipping paths in 5.5 the lasso tool blinks completely on and off on the screen. Particularly when the lasso is near the clipping path. I opened the same document in 4 and 5.5 and put the items side by side. in 4 not blinking in 5.5 blinking. having the same problem on a 8500 and a G4.

I have not been able to get an answer to this question anywhere. can you help?

Sounds like a memory problem, make sure there is plenty of memory allocated to photoshop before you open it. 50,000 k is probably as low as you wanna go.

it is not the memory, i have increased memory up to the point of the' puter not being able to handle it on both the 8500 and the G4. the g4 has about 400 megs of ram. the 8500 has 120 something

Definatly sounds buggy. Does this happen on every document or just really big ones? You could always try re-installing 5.5 just incase something got screwed during the install. Also check this link, even if the patch doesnt mention your problem it may clear it up.

did that. does it a bit more on the bigger ones but not just the REALLY BIG ones. I work on a lot of files between 3 megs to about 500 megs and it does it on all of them. what i don't understand is that it is on two very different systems. and 4 did not do it!! tryed to get info through adobe to no avail. and through local supplier also.

Well whatever it is Photoshop 6 does it as well. Just a guess here but maybe Adobe is trying to respect your resources by not forcing too many things to redraw at once. I dont thinks its that annoying and it doesnt seem to hurt anything. Usually when I see this kind of thing from Adobe I figure it's because fixing would cause problems elsewhere that would probably effect workflow. It's the lesser of two evils i guess.

thanks for all your input, however i think that your 6.0 is probably not "blinking" on and off like mine. when you line up the lasso it actually dissapears off and on the screen. thats fun lining up the tool when it dissapears! I can do what i need to do however, it is more difficult than 4.0 and takes more time. I do not know anybody with 6 yet to see if it is different. maybe i will upgrade. thanks again for your thoughts

Just one more thought, go into your preferances and change your cursurs to "presise" which will change the lasso into a crosshair, it will probably still disapear but be less annoying.
