Hello All - The printer is an HP Laserjet P4015tn, brand new out of the box configured as network printer with a printer server queue.
From the start when printing anything to it, the printer's LCD menu would show "Manually feed HP tough paper" message.
The OK button needs to be pressed, the Tray 3 for legal is shown as an option and the Up key has to be pressed to select Tray 2 which is typically the default in HP Lj printers. Some of the settings changed at the printer itself and/or via the browser, Tray Behavior section, USE REQUESTED TRAY set to Exclusively and/or First, MANUALLY FEED PROMPT set to Unless loaded, SIZE/TYPE PROMPT set to Do Not Display, USE ANOTHER TRAY set to Enabled, TRAY 2 MODEL set to Standard Tray. Under the Printing section, DEFAULT PAPER SIZE set to Letter, OVERRIDE A4/LETTER set to Yes, MANUAL FEED set Off, under TRAY SIZES/TYPES, Tray 1 size set to ANY CUSTOM and Type to PLAIN, Tray 2 size set to Letter and its type to Plain, Tray 3 size set to Legal and its type to Plain. All these changes applied as per HP warranty support and still the printer kept showing the message. The Print server queue, properties>Printing preferences, paper Size changed to Unspecified and the same problem.
I’ve never had an issue with any HP printer on a print queue asking to “manually feed HP tough paper”; usually, the IP is assigned and it works right away with no problems. It is unknown if the server people deleted the print queue or just changed the driver (the print queue name used to be an HP4350 printer), I believe only the driver was changed and print queue was not recreated.
It was also suggested that on the print queue to change, under Device Settings, to change the manual feed in tray setting to Not Available.
When printer is set up as a local USB connection, there’s no problem at all and it prints just fine.
The printer has been set up with the HP Universal Print Driver.
The fix so far has been to remove the driver from computer, add printer and then go to its properties> printing preferences, Under Printing Shortcuts in user Guide Settings> Paper Sizes is changed from Legal to Letter and Apply is pressed. Then the Paper/Quality tab is check to see if it also changed to letter. Clicking ok Out of it and testing printer works just fine. As you can see it is somewhat of a pain to do this on every computer that will use this printer. One other thing, it was noticed a few times at printer installation time when in Printing Shortcuts tab & changing to Letter and applying it under User Guide Print Settings and clicking ok. If the same section is opened again and then Factory Defaults is selected/clicked on & then User Guide Settings is selected, the Paper Sizes changes back to legal.
Any help is certainly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
