This is a strange one, since it should be simple. This LJIII printer jams, with the paper stopping past the pickup roller, but before the corona wire, sort of right in the middle. What is even stranger is that once it starts running, it works fine. Also, the pickup roller is OK (I just replaced it, and that's not where the jam is anyway). Suggestions welcome.

1. did you change the pickup roller assy? or changed just the roller itself? If so is the roller on backwards Trust me it's easy to do)or is it possibly the clutch on the assy?
2. Clean the separation pad with a dry cloth?
3. Wipe off any impediments on the metal rollers on the registration assy.
4. Make sure the little metal piece in front of the registration assy is installed properly and is clean with no impediments on it.

With all that said and done the paper should get to the fuser where it pulls it the rest of the way.

BTW This is on the first page right and NOT after it has been printing for a bit?If it is after the first page, is the page before hanging just a bit out the exit assy?

Thanks for your response. I have solved the problem! As it turns out, the answer was not to be so careless. I just hadn't put the roller assembly in right. The little plastic bracket just wasn't seated properly.

Now I have a problem with a differnt LJIII. One of the lower gears makes an awful noise when the motor turns. None of the gears appears to be damaged, however. Swapping the motor assembly (including the attached gears) makes no difference, so the problem must be in a different gear.

Noise how? screeching? clicking? whine? If I was guessing I would say the 14T gear on the fuser is bad. That is the most common gear to wear. Or the gear that drive the upper assy is worn almost through. those 2 are my first guesses.
