I support a laserjet 5si that has a noise/feed issue. Here's the skinny:
Installed new maintenance kit today.
Printer makes loud ratcheting noise on warmup and when trying to print. Noise appears to be coming from rear door area.
Paper will feed 3/4 way through fuser than jam. It fan folds. It doesn't appear that the rollers on the top exit are moving. If I open the rear door, I see the gear on the fuser moving. I am unable to locate where the noise is coming from.
It is either:
1) The top roller assembly
2) the rear deflector (that turns the paper over if a duplexer is installed, none is)
or 3) The main gear that turns the fuser.

Any and all help appreciated.

Did it do this before you replaced the fuser assembly?

Yes, it did. I replaced the face down delivery unit this morning and that fixed the issue.
