Hi, I have a large (2.5mb) Word doc that gives me a warning when I open it, the warning reads...
"This document may be corrupt. To preserve the contents: Choose Select all from the Edit menu, choose Copy...bla bla bla" basically explaining how to copy and paste to a new doc. I have tried that, but it somehow takes the problem accross with it to the new file. If I say ok to this message, it might work fine and print ok, but most of the time there are errors like pics are not showing up (there are not many, but there is a pic embedded in the headder for each page) and tables do not appear and words are missing from random places, no real constant problem?
Is there anyway that I can try to repair the doc or search for errors???????
Even any third party stuff?????????

thanks in advance! Jay~

Keytech: I'm working on your file and *should* have it back to you before the weekend. I finally got rid of the corruption error by opening it and letting repair run in Word XP! (Woohoo! I couldn't seem to get rid of that message!) But there are tons of other formatting problems I'm working on for you. Brainbench MVP for Microsoft Word

Thanks a million Dreamboat, your too good!!
Don't kill yourself on that file, if its giving too much trouble dont bother, I'll just tell them that it's un-repairable or whatever. But again thanks a million as it's 'important stuff' for them!!!!! Jay~

A solution I have discovered for many of these types of problems is to save the file in rtf format close the file then reopen and save back as a word document. One warning. All macros in the document will be lost.

Hi Dreamboat,

I dont know what time you posted that at, (I live in Ireland so the times will be different!! I work while you sleep and visa versa!!) But if its not too late here is my email address, jking@acumis.com if you havent already sent it. Im out on site now and wont get it till later....
if you have fixed it then thanks a MILLION!!! your a star! and for your troubles, here is a nice shiny star beside your name!!!!!
Thanks again and I will let you know when I receive the mail..... Jay~

Cool beans.

Problems in that file:

1. Some rows in the tables had cells that extended off the page, but weren't being used. Tables all formatted differently. Added table text style and applied to tables. Paragraph returns used to provide spacing in table cells all removed and space before/added to paragraph formatting of table text style.
2. It appears that it was set up to use styles and the person who most recently worked on it did not use styles.
3. Too many styles that aren't being used. They should be deleted as they just increase file size. (I did not delete)
4. Deleted many continuous section breaks that weren't needed. (Ctrl-a, File-Page setup, Layout tab, change New section start to next page and delete all unnecessary section breaks).
5. Suspect a previous style was corrupt. Bulleted lists behaved very oddly until I applied the new style to them (list bullet).
6. In general, document appeared to me to have at one time been a WordPerfect doc, noted by the continuous section breaks and certain other behavior.
7. Recreated header so that graphic was inline with text, this maintains integrity better.

Hmmm. What else? As if that weren't enough. LOL
Just thought this might help you help them. Perhaps not.

Excellent stuf, I'll tell them what was up with it, but they probably won't have a clue!!! They'll just stare blankly and agree with me!
That works for me!

Thanks again.
