Hello,
we're trying to print a large (100pages) Mac Quark doc that contains lots of eps graphics to an HP 5000 with 88mb of memory. The printer starts spewing out pages and pages of gibberish which at which point we cancel the job.

Any help or suggestions?
Thanks,
Cathi

Can I assume you are getting text (computer language) rather than gibberish from the job?

If so, it looks like your printer may be detecting a postscript error.

If other documents print ok, the printer and rip is ok. Try printing page 1. If it prints ok...print 1-5, and so on...when the 'gibberish' appears...narrow down the page run page by page until you find the page it is struggling with...there will probably be an image it has a problem processing...copy image to a clean page...if it gives you the same result, try doing a save as on the image...if it doesn't work...save it as a tiff...

It could just be that the RIP cannot handle the amout of data you are asking it to process, print sections of the docuement rather than the whole thing at once.

Happy printing...

Thanks BD
but...
we have tried just printing one page. the document is 100 pages with eps files in the text files. The eps files were created with Chinese text from our Chinese Quark so that our client can print from Quark.

the printer just spews out pages and pages with one line of gibberish. we cancel the printer before we waste too much paper.

the printer has 88mb of memory.
anything else we can try with changing settings ?

thanks,
cathi

Okey dokey!

It does sound like a postcript error. Try printing page 1 only...if this prints ok...error is on another page.

If it doesn't the error is on page one (or multiple if it is a font issue).

Maybe set up a new doc, with new text box...try using the chinese font and print that doc...this will narrow down the problem...basically a process of elimination
