Hello,

I have over 500 files in the database folder and they are very large. I tried to maintain the database with the utilities but without success. We haven't done it for months. Now we decided to initialize it, and want to merge a few tapes into the database. But it's grey and I can't choose the command. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help and sorry for my English.

Initialise database is greyed out.... Hmmmm, I am not too sure, but are you sure you have clicked on the database engine tab, then gone to initialise?

quite quirky I know...

Thank's for your replay. Yes, I'm sure and it's greyed out. We are running 5 Servers with Arcserve 2000, SP2. It's greyed out on each server. I think I'm going to reinstall arcserve and I'll take the sp3. Let's see, what will happen. This guess this is the fastest way to solve the problem. I can't believe, that a database which contains only 5 tapes, must take over 5GB of disk space.

Hi
I think you have destroyed your DB. The best thing to do, if that happens again is, when you will have installed arcserve again start it for the first time. If everything is allright stop the engines make a copy of your asdb directory and safe it to a secure place. The next time you destroy your db shut down AS and copy the saved db's into the db directory. This is the quickest way to get back to work if some accident happens.

Before you blow anything away, check the ARCserve TechBase (see link section). They have an article on maintaining the database.

Are you sure about the greyed out?

You must be on the database engine tab, the click on operation, and the database engine must be running.

I can't get around it, if it's not any of these I don't know why it wouldn't be enabled?!?!?!!?

Hello,

thank you all for your answers. I have checked it. I'm on the rigt tab and it's realy greyed out. Now, I installed it again and I did it the way, Gary recommended. The articles about maintaining the database helped, but it took me to long time to repair the db.
