Hi,
I want to get a laptop- mostly to increase productivity, so I can work when I'm not in the office, I have heard horror stories about both Compaq (broke down- replaced motherboard and hard drive twice) and Dell (crappy customer service for breakdowns), but I don't know much about brands.

I don't want to spend loads of money to have a machine that spends more time getting fixed than being used.
I need good graphics capability- I run photoshop, and macromedia software, as well as shockwave/ director/ premier on occasion.
A decent battery life would also be good- and hey, a reasonable price, I'm a self employed web designer, the companies buying this- which means I'm paying for it!

Any suggestions would be great, as well as hints what to look for and what to avoid- I know nada about laptops.

thanks heaps!

Sometimes, when my code just won't behave, I take it outside and make it listen to britney spears music, and when it comes back it's really well behaved. I wonder if it's suffering from post tramatic stress syndrome now..

FWIW, I've had Tosh Satellite Pro for a couple of years. It's been reliable and trouble free apart from the internal modem which I've never used anyway; battery life could be better.

The infra port is at the front which is wrong place when printing. I ended up buying a IR port on a USB cable, which works great.

I've always used it with a conventional mouse as I don't like the touch pad.

Take a look at Acer Centrinos. I've supplied several to clients, robust, great battery life and good price.
