Hello Community,

I have seen a similar question posted by some members, but haven't really seen a definite solution....
One of our user's laptop will not power up.When you hit the power button,it lights up, the hard drive light also comes on but only for few seconds, and everything goes dead, including the fan. The screen doesnt even come on at all. I have removed the battery, the hard drive, etc, all to no avail. I am suspecting that the system board is gone.
Any suggestions please?

Thanks All

I believe you are correct, the board is acting up.
Call the manufacturer.

I assume it does this whether it's using battery power, or plugged into the mains? If one of your users has an identical laptop, maybe you can verify the mains power unit and the battery work ok on the other machine.

Just to add:
Does the battery charge light come on when the mains adapter is inserted?
It is very common for the chassis plug on the laptop to break which in turn prevents the battery from charging.

Thanks all for your input.
Yes it does the same thing with or without the battery, hard drive, and the main power adapter. All the lights will come up when you turn the laptop on, and everything goes dead within seconds, including the fan.
Actually, this user is on the road a lot and no one in the office has the same type of laptop thats having the problem.
I have also tried to use a different hard drive from another laptop, didnt work either.

Upon learning the cost of a new system board, we decided to replace the laptop with a new one. Bingo.

hello community

exeeeduus75,
I'm curious did you test the ram?
I seen a users laptop that did not power up either, eventually worked out the Ram was the problem. Replaced it and alls good.

You can also re-solder the connector onto the MB, but you have to tear the laptop down. Our local shop charges $150 to do it, and has done dozens of them.

Hello Community

dglienna,
To start of with I thought to tear down the travelmate230 too and searched for service manual but kept coming up with pics of the components. And not how to tear it down. Am I missing something somewhere? What’s with the middle not disconnecting?
It was the ram but I still wanna know how?

Everything pssible including the RAM was checked, but to no avail.

If your user has an identical laptop, is he/she using the same power cord for both? Does it come up with the message "No bootable device found" when you try it without a hard drive? If so, does it power off after that? Finding these thjings out will rule out about 90%.
