My touchpad stopped working while I was using Napster which is also producing lots of Run Time errors. I think this might have something to do with PuppyLinux even though I only use it with a live CD. The touch pad does not work in XP or Puppylinux. Neither the touchpad or mouse buttons work.

Is there any way I can check whether this is a hardware or software problem? Device manager reports the touchpad is working correctly. Reinstalling the driver has not remedied the problem.

Thanks

What are the runtime error code numbers and/or the exact text of the error message?

I forgot to mention I am using a Logitech trackball which is working fine.

The error message is:

A runtime error has occurred
do you wish to debug?

Line:300
Error: expected ';'

Then

A runtime error has occurred
do you wish to debug?

Line:201
Error: object expected

Then

A runtime error has occurred
do you wish to debug?

Line:15
Error: object expected

It carries on like this with the errors stacking upon each other.

Thanks

I've decided to do a clean install XP. Hopefully this will cure the problem.

Something to check is make sure that the Touchpad has not been turned off. For example on a Toshiba Tecra M5 using Fn+F9 will toggle the Touchpad on and off, but will not affect an external mouse. I am not sure what the combination would be on your Acer, however, if you look at the Function keys you may see one that has a picture of the Touchpad on it. One last thing if the Touchpad is turned off it will affect any OS you run because it is turned off at the Bios level.

I realize that it shows up in Device Manager, but it is just a thought.

Have a great day!

Always remember that nothing worth doing is easy!

Thanks for that. I realised this was the problem too late as I'd already started re-installing XP.

I can't believe I didn't think of this!
