As mentioned in the subject I have a laptop that takes a long time to time out if it is not connected to the domain. Is there a way to make this time out faster?
It just greys out the login screen (still viewable in the background) and waits for about 3 minutes then loads up informing that the domain is not reachable. It works fine when attached to the domain. Of course this has to be the owners laptop.
He usually runs the system wireless. It is one of those small sony laptops, so he runs WiFi in the office and runs it on Cingular's system when out of the office (or not connected to anything at all).
I was hoping there was a setting to tell the laptop how long to wait for a response from the server before it decides it is not reachable.
This problem is caused if any network cards, Wired or Wireless are active when the machine boots - as windows will search for a DC. Its a PITA and something I really hope Vista has a fix for.
I understand it will take some time to look for the DC. We have other laptops that do this. However this one can take up to about 5-10 minutes looking around. Others may take a minute or a little longer. I take it that there is no setting to control this?
Ask him to disable the Wireless card...normally a button on the keyboard that enables/disabled the laptop durring boot up. He can then able it after it has booted
Hope this Helps.
