Hi all. My laptop is getting slower,, real slow,, Hard drive is less than half full, defrag done,, I suspect virus, but out of date Norton does not show any. Problem is this. My ISP only allows two network cards to access net. I have two already,, even if i go to store , New version of Nortons need to go online to update. Only solution I can think of is to get laptop recognized by home machine thru (Linksys switch) as a logical drive and scan it using up to date Nortons on home machine,, Before I installed XP in home machine, I had it working, but I cannot seem to get XP to "see" laptop(ME),, any thoughts. ?

WinXP=NTFS

I'm confused. If you have 2 network cards already accessing the internet, does one have a cd burner? If so, why not download the updated definition files from the symantec website and burn them onto a cd, then install on the laptop from the cd? If not, the network setup may be your only solution, but again, I'd download the update file and copy it over the network as opposed to scanning over the network. Sounds like you have some networking issues anyway.

Ok so your trying to avoid buying another copy of norton right ?

You can run an online scan at a site such as mcafee, or download a free virus scanner such as AVG (
Machines do get slower and it's not always about how much space is being taken up.
