We have a HP laptop (New) and have just set it up with XP pro and Office and NAV etc. It has a DVD burner and has been used with Nero to burn DVD's. In fact no problems.

Then we put in a data dvd from one of the other machines at work and bang it restarts and restarts and restarts. The DVD is fine everywhere else except the HP Laptop. The Laptop will play movie DVD's but put a data disk near it and bang. There is a blue screen in the process but it shoots past so fast it can't be read.

Any ideas. How come 30 other machines are happy but not the laptop!!!!!!!!!!1

Look at the Event Viewer for information on the restarts. Also, right-click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery settings, and disable the automatic restart on errors.

To find the exact error so you can research the fault do this.

To get further information about any error look in your Event viewer.

Look in the System or Application folder. You can get to the Event Viewer via right click My Computer icon and select Manage.

Any errors logged in the Event Viewer can be expanded by double clicking on the error line.

Take any event error I.D. number and search for it on these sites.

Also check any "Information" line that mentions "savedump" and you should find reference to "recovered from a bug check". This is the Stop Error that caused your problem.

You can also turn off "automatically restart after an error" so it will just halt at the fault and display the full Stop Error and blue screen.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties .
On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery .
Click to clear the Automatically restart check box under System failure , and then click OK . The error message on a blue screen should remain on the screen so you can record the error information.

It might be worth checking with HP (or the DVD manufacturer) to see if there are updated drivers or firmware for the DVD.

The error log gives 2 errors.

W32Time id number 19

The technical information on the Blue Screen is pretty boring

*** STOP: 0X0000007F then loads of 0's

Will try the HP site but any new ideas would be welcome.

Something to read.

You receive a "Stop 0x0000007F" error message or your computer unexpectedly restarts

There is some mention of the Time errors at the end of this thread.
