Hi,

My boss has a Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop which keeps losing the date and time when it is not used for a while.

I'm pretty sure it just needs a new CMOS battery. I'd know how to do it on a desktop computer, but I was wondering how difficult it is on a laptop?

It's out of warranty so sending it back isn't an option.

I await your reply.

Regards,
Jay

The Toshiba sattellite pro manual states the relacement of the Real Time Clock is best left to a dealer or Toshiba Rep. I know changing the Power Pack is easy (I've done it on my own), but I think you'd have to virtually rip the laptop apart to get at the RTC Battery. The RTC battery is a Lithium Ion type.

Or you can install TrayHelper:

...and install the Atomic Clock plugin, that will update the BIOS clock every 5 minutes when configured and connected to the Internet. The app is free and they allow one plugin for free. I run it on all my PCs, I've grown accustomed to the date in the tray, can't live without it. Of course it is spware-free.

You could set it up (if it is online for a lot of the time) simply to use the NIST timeserver independent of any 3rd party package... but it might not be as sexy :)
