I've just reformatted my Sony Vaio and installed Windows XP pro. How do I reinstall the software for the shortcut keyboard controls (sound, brightness etc)? I only have the system recovery disk that came with the machine, which will reinstall a whole image (which I dont want to do)

hmm, I did check this link out before. It doesnt seem to include software for keyboard control

I've found in some "Restore" disks, you can access (not run) the disk to find and install the drivers you need. May say "Setup" or "Inf" in the individual directories that apply to what you need.

If you can browse your Recovery CD?

You might be able to make use of the "Expand" button in the MsConfig Window if you have the driver on your CD.

Or better still get XP to update the Keyboard Driver via Device Manager and point it to your driver on the CD

I've tried exploring the driver recovery cd supplied by Sony. There is no keyboard driver on the cd. Also, there is no keyboard driver online at Sony Support.

The only way it seems to install is by using the Sony Application recovery cd, which re-images the entire machine, which is obviously not an option. It is not possible to explore this cd either, as it is an ISO file.

There has to be a way to do this, it's driving me crazy.

Contact a Sony representative directly at this stage as we can rewrite the drivers for you and they arent on the site from what you can tell.

Hi

Get a copy of ISOBuster from

and you should be able to extract the individual files from the ISO file. Click "IsoBuster" on the left hand menu for more information.

Hmm, unfortunately, these drivers seem to be for AMD based machines. Mine is a Pentium. Also, this site makes no mention of keyboard drivers, from what I saw.

As I said,
Get onto Sony now.

Yes, probably my best option at this point, thanks.

i don't know if this will help you but here goes. just received a sony vaio pcg-frv37 and had to burn my own recovery discs. one of the discs should have an "autorun.exe" in the root folder. that should be the VAIO application recovery wizard. you need to install the "HotKey Utility", and the "Sony Utilities Library". Both are required for the hot keys to work. i don't know if that will work but thats what i used to get my hot keys to function

Ok, thanks to SiNSystems, I found the "Hotkey Utility" and "Sony Utilities Library" on the recovery cd. I've also executed the install for both of these utilities. However, despite what the installation shield says about the successful install, the hotkey still do not work. When I go to the keyboard in Control Panel, it still comes up as standard 101/102 button keyboard. When I go to update the driver from this screen, it searches the recovery cd with the hotkey utility and says no driver could be found.
